Are you sweating excessively? Or is sweat harming your confidence in public? If so, you’re not alone. 365 million people worldwide struggle with hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating. Hyperhidrosis is a condition in which a person sweats excessively not related to exercise or heat. There are two types of hyperhidrosis:

  • Primary Hyperhidrosis occurs most often in the hands, underarms, and feet. It’s defined as excessive sweating caused by underlying conditions.
  • Secondary Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating all over the body which is caused by an underlying medical condition, heat, or medication.

93% of patients with hyperhidrosis are diagnosed with primary hyperhidrosis. This condition typically starts between 14-25 years of age. Hyperhidrosis is often undiagnosed and undertreated, with many patients waiting 10+ years before seeking treatment. Why wait?

Hyperhidrosis impairs daily functions and social interactions such as exercising, working amongst others, personal relationships, and intimacy, at school, and other daily activities.

The impacts of hyperhidrosis are widely felt. 90% of hyperhidrosis sufferers claim that excessive sweating affects their emotions, causing them to feel less confident, frustrated, unhappy, or even depressed.

Do You…

  • Sweat more than normal?
  • Feel your daily life is disrupted by excessive sweating?
  • Rely on supplies (like t-shirts, absorbent materials, topical products) to cope with sweat?
  • Feel that excessive sweating is affecting your performance at work?

Then you may be a good candidate for miraDry, the only FDA-approved treatment for permanent sweat reduction!

Primary axillary hyperhidrosis isn’t preventable, but it is treatable with miraDry!

A Man with Hyperhidrosis sweating badly from his armpits.

This condition is caused by overactive sweat gland activity. When sweat glands overreact, it results in more sweat produced than is necessary, often causing visible sweat stains.

Primary axillary hyperhidrosis is NOT caused by stress, poor hygiene, or lifestyle choices. These are common misconceptions!

Benefits of receiving a miraDry treatment include:

  • Significant reduction in generalized anxiety and social anxiety symptoms
  • Avoiding chemical/artificial ingredients like aluminum chloride
  • More confidence to wear what you want
  • No more sweat stains!

What is miraDry?

The miraDry treatment is the only FDA-cleared treatment that can dramatically reduce underarm sweat by addressing the root cause of excessive sweat and its accompanying odor – not just the symptoms.

The miraDry treatment uses thermal energy that targets and eliminates the sweat glands in your underarm. Once those glands are eliminated, they do not grow back. You’re only an hour-long, three-step treatment away from saying “Goodbye, sweat stains!”

Don’t I need to sweat?

Of course! But not from your underarms. You’re born with approximately 2-4 million sweat glands throughout your body. Your underarms only contain about 2% of those glands. After your miraDry treatment, you will experience the many benefits of dry underarms, and you will continue to perspire normally elsewhere.

How to prepare for treatment

4-6 Days Before

Shave! By the time you come in for your procedure, there will be a little bit of hair growth to identify the area to be treated.

1 Day Before

Do not wear deodorant or antiperspirant.

Day Of

Wear loose-fitting clothing. Clothes with loose arm holes are great for easy access to the treatment site, such as a tank top, sports bra, or camisole. Plan for the procedure to take one hour.

Treatment

miraDry uses thermal energy to create heat in the area where sweat, odor, and hair glands reside. This energy safely eliminates the bothersome glands in a completely non-invasive way. There are no surgical incisions or cuts needed for the procedure – it’s an hour-long, 3-step procedure performed in the office.

Step 1

First, your provider will numb the area with local anesthesia to assure maximum comfort during your treatment.

Step 2

A temporary tattoo is used to mark skin in preparation for treatment.

Step 3

The area is treated with miraDry eliminating sweat and odor glands in the underarm.

Recovery

You have just taken a big step towards reducing your underarm sweat! There are a few things you should know. First, you should notice a reduction in the amount of your underarm sweat almost immediately after the procedure. Most patients report a dramatic reduction, but not complete elimination, of their underarm sweat. In a recent clinical study, the average sweat reduction was 82% after two treatments.

It is normal for the underarms and surrounding areas to feel numb for several hours after the procedure.

To Assist in Recovery, We Recommend You

  • Immediately ice the treated area. Continue to ice over the next few days to reduce swelling, which may last up to 2 weeks.
  • A non-prescription anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen will reduce the normal inflammation and discomfort that usually occurs for a few days after the procedure.
  • Keep your underarms clean while they are healing from the procedure. Use gentle liquid soap to cleanse the underarms twice a day.
  • Your underarms could be tender for up to two weeks as they heal from the procedure

Most noteworthy is that most patients experience little to no downtime and resume regular activity (like returning to work) immediately. You will be able to begin exercising again within several days. You may experience swelling, numbness, bruising, and sensitivity in the underarm area for several days post-treatment.

When will I see the results?

You can expect immediate and lasting results. Once the miraDry treatment eliminates the sweat and odor glands, they’re gone for good. The treatment is clinically proven to reduce sweat by 82%, and 89% of patients were no longer bothered by odor. As with any aesthetic treatment, patient results may vary.

Your provider will schedule a follow-up with you before you leave your treatment. At this follow-up, we will do a sweat test. This involves applying iodine and cornstarch to the treated area in a slightly warmer room. After a short amount of time, the cornstarch will change color in the areas still producing sweat. Your provider will measure this output and determine whether a second treatment is necessary!

Hyperhidrosis is an uncontrollable condition that can interfere with nearly every aspect of life. In people who have excessive sweating, the sweat glands are generally overactive, producing more sweat than is necessary. Excessive underarm sweat, or primary axillary hyperhidrosis, often goes untreated despite being the most bothersome and common form of excessive sweating. miraDry is the only permanent, non-surgical treatment for excessive underarm sweat!
