Brow LIft

A brow lift at Capizzi MD elevates and smooths the forehead, softening lines and restoring a more youthful, refreshed appearance to the upper face. By repositioning the brows to a natural, balanced height, this procedure brightens the eyes and enhances overall facial harmony.

About Brow Lifts

Are you concerned with asymmetry, or low, sagging brows? A brow lift might be for you! Low, sagging brows can be a result of natural aging. As we age, our skin and soft tissues lose elasticity. This causes sagging and can shorten the distance between the eyebrows and eyelashes, creating a drooping look. A lower position of your brows can impact your expression, causing you to appear tired, angry, or sad when your face is relaxed.

A brow lift can correct:

  • Horizontal lines and creases in the forehead and across the bridge of the nose
  • Deep lines between the brows
  • Sagging/drooping eyebrows and eyelids

The brow lift technique your surgeon chooses will raise your eyebrows and restore your appearance to look more pleasing and refreshed. This procedure is often recommended with an upper eyelid lift to improve brow ptosis (sagging).

WHAT IS A BROW LIFT?

Also known as a “forehead lift” or forehead rejuvenation, a brow lift is a cosmetic procedure to raise the brows. This procedure improves the appearance of the forehead, brow, and the area around the eyes by raising the soft tissue and skin of the forehead and brow.

What happens during the procedure?

Brow lift techniques vary depending on your desired results. Your surgeon will discuss your goals with you and develop a personalized treatment plan. The specific technique your surgeon chooses will determine the location of your incisions and your resulting scars. There are three main types of brow lift methods: the classic lift, endoscopic lift, and limited incision.

1. The Classic Brow Lift
The classic lift involves one incision that reaches from ear to ear across the top of the head. For patients concerned with having a high forehead, your surgeon may recommend the incision follow the hairline.

2. The Endoscopic Brow Lift
An endoscopic lift uses multiple short incisions in the scalp. Your surgeon will then insert a scope (a small, thin tube attached to a camera) to view the tissues and muscles from a screen while using another device to make the alterations and improvements. In this technique, the tissue is anchored with a temporary or permanent stitch below the scalp, producing results that will last for the years to come. This technique is less invasive due to the smaller incisions.

3. The Limited Incision Brow Lift
The limited incision technique is a combination of the classic and endoscopic techniques. The smaller incisions involved in an endoscopic brow lift are used, but the scope is not.

Your surgeon will make an incision either at your hairline or in your hair, depending on the technique that will best achieve your goals. Then, they will maneuver and remove any tissues contributing to deep wrinkles or frown lines. The incisions will be closed with dissolvable sutures.

Recovery from a Brow Lift

Despite varying techniques, recovery is usually consistent. As with most surgical procedures, you will have bruising and swelling immediately after surgery that will last for about 1-2 weeks. Keeping your head elevated and using ice packs will help alleviate some of this swelling! Most patients can return to work and normal activities within 2-4 days. You should avoid heavy lifting, vigorous exercise, or other strenuous activity for the first few weeks following surgery. Cosmetics (like concealer) can be useful to camouflage any bruising, but keep in mind healing will continue for several weeks.
