- Breast Revision -
Women seek breast revision surgery for a variety of reasons, yet all have one burning question on their minds: How will this time be different? Dr. Capizzi is well aware that many patients have felt let down in the past by their breast augmentation procedure and are naturally skeptical about repeating the experience.
As a double board-certified plastic surgeon with nearly two decades of experience and thousands of successful breast revisions to draw upon, Dr. Peter Capizzi has dedicated himself to restoring client confidence in their appearance. It is the doctor’s great pleasure to facilitate the reversal of botched and subpar breast surgeries, correcting the flaws of less qualified surgeons and setting the patient back on track towards their original aesthetic goals.
Am I a good candidate for breast revision surgery?
Breast revisions are performed when the client is not happy with the size, shape, symmetry or placement of her implants; when the implants have ruptured or leaked; when a significant amount of weight has been lost or gained; or when a patient has suffered from breast cancer.
Other common reasons for seeking breast revision surgery include:
- Capsular contracture: hardened, irregular scar tissue that has formed around the implant
- Misshapen nipples
- Changes in breast appearance after childbirth due to breast-feeding
- Gaps created by saline implants
In all cases, Dr. Capizzi offers a confidential, discreet consultation in which he will provide the answers to all your questions, review your photographs, previous surgeries and medical history, and make his best recommendations towards your ideal revised breast profile. No breast augmentation revision is too complicated or too trivial for Dr. Capizzi. He is here to serve all your needs and exceed your original expectations, and will go to any lengths to ensure your total satisfaction with your results.
“Upgrading” your breast augmentation:
As techniques and technology evolve, some women may wish to “upgrade” to the newest and most versatile style of implants. Dr. Capizzi is an FDA-appointed co-investigator for Allergan’s fifth-generation cohesive gel Gummy Bear implants, as well as a co-investigator for Sientra and their line of implants, making him among the top breast revision authority. He has helped hundreds of women to redefine and rejuvenate their silhouettes by introducing these form-stable, tear-shaped implants, now increasingly considered to provide the greatest longevity in holding their shape.
Breast revision techniques:
As each breast revision procedure presents a unique set of variables to be corrected, Dr. Capizzi will naturally tailor his surgical approach accordingly. In most cases, the doctor is able to utilize the original incision point as a means of avoiding further scarring. Issues such as capsular contracture respond particularly well to this approach. If a breast lift is recommended in conjunction with a revision, Dr. Capizzi may extend the incision to produce the ideal outcome.
Some other common revision techniques may involve improvements to the implant pocket; fat grafting; and reinforcement with a biodegradable mesh (Galaflex), or Seri, a biodegradable silk mesh material that acts like human breast tissue. Additionally, Dr. Capizzi is highly versed in Acellular Dermis, an innovative procedure to reinforce and regenerate soft tissue. Most often due to experience, no mesh is needed to repair or reverse the pockets. This saves time for healing, finances, and additional procedure risk.
Regardless of the procedure, those concerned about future pregnancies can rest assured that Dr. Capizzi’s scrupulous and skillful technique will help preserve the sensation and function of the areola for breast-feeding.

Breast Revision Recovery:
While recovery times may vary from patient to patient, most of Dr. Capizzi’s clients find that his efficient surgical technique enables accelerated healing with minimal pain or discomfort. Each client will receive a customized aftercare plan that addresses their individual postoperative needs. The doctor recommends that breast revision clients avoid strenuous activities for several days after the procedure, including lifting and/or high impact aerobics. Occasionally the doctor may employ small breast drains to excise fluids, but these are removed within around 48 hours. Gauze-covered sutures will dissolve within 30 days.
As a confirmed innovator in the breast revision industry, Dr. Capizzi has designed an original device for breast revision patients that can actually improve surgical results and speed up recovery. It is called the Capizzi Custom Bra, and it is one of the reasons so many women have found Dr. Capizzi’s revision to the be last one they ever need.
Having been through the Capizzi experience, these patients can help you understand the smoothness of the journey.
