While some of us may have kicked the summer season off over Memorial Day weekend, June 21 marks the official start of summer. Plans are underway for trips to the lake, pool parties, and delicious BBQs. The kids are wrapping up their school year and dreaming of days at camp.

Much of the summer-time fun has you in the sun; ultimately reminding us that it’s time to protect, preserve, and revitalize our body’s largest organ – our skin! At Capizzi MD, we have options to combat sun related brown spots, acne, and even wrinkles or scars.

Sun related brown spots:

Daily application of sunscreen is very important in preventing the darkening of current pigment issues and creating new ones. Opt for sunscreens that offer full protection. While traditional sunscreens protect against UVA and UVB rays, choose a sunscreen that also protects against HEV (high-energy visible) light which has been shown to induce skin cancer, premature aging, and hyperpigmentation.

If you are looking to treat brown pigment in the skin (age spots) or sun damage, consider a Broad Band Light or Chemical Peel treatment. These options work best when sun exposure is limited, so be sure to discuss summer plans with your Aesthetician prior to starting treatment.

Acne:

Give your summer skin care regimen a boost with exfoliation. When skin is not properly exfoliated, dead cells can build up on the skin’s surface and inside your pores. When dead skin mixes with trapped oils, your pores may become clogged resulting in blackheads and whiteheads.

Dermaplaning is an ideal way to exfoliate, remove dead skin, and remove vellus hair. Plus, it provides an instant glow and helps applied make-up last longer. I also recommend and carry ZO products for skincare. ZO offers a medical grade line for Maintenance, Therapeutic Treatment, Daily Skincare, and Prevention. And, the Revision Skincare line has a few options when it comes to tinted sunscreens or a Multi-Protection SPF, if you’re wanting the “no-makeup” look this Summer.

Wrinkles and Scars:

Micro-needling is a procedure that is used to treat laxity and textural skin problems such as wrinkles and acne scars. At Capizzi MD, we use Rejuvapen to create tiny perforations in the skin. These tiny perforations harness the skins own capacity for healing and increases skin firmness and overall radiance. While the procedure may be uncomfortable for some, the treatment only takes about 30 minutes and offers lasting results.

Whether you’re wrestling with unwanted scars, unloved freckles, or reduced skin laxity, know that our Capizzi MD team has a solution right for you. Connect with our office and schedule your consultation today. Let this summer be the summer you kissed your skin care concerns good-bye!
