Microneedling is a fantastic, FDA-cleared procedure that rejuvenates skin by boosting collagen production. This collagen smooths fine lines and improves the overall texture of the skin. Microneedling reduces the appearance of blemishes, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation. At Capizzi MD, we establish your need for microneedling during a complimentary Skincare Consultation with one of our Licensed Medical Aestheticians.
- Reduces pore size
- Smooths fine lines and wrinkles
- Lifts, tightens, and firms skin
- Improves the appearance of scars from acne or others
- Assists with redness and pigmentation.
Microneedling with PRP
Using PRP with microneedling has shown to make the treatment more effective and speed the healing process, producing better results than microneedling alone. The liquid in blood is plasma, while platelets are solid. Platelets help blood clot, so they are vital for healing wounds and injuries. PRP contains proteins, growth factors, and cytokines that help skin tissue repair itself.
If you choose to add PRP to your microneedling treatment, a nurse will draw a small blood sample while you are numbing to extract the PRP. Then, during the procedure, PRP is infused back into your skin to enhance your results and recovery.
What is Rejuvapen? How does it work?
Rejuvapen is a medical-grade microneedling device that uses tiny needles to penetrate the skin. Your aesthetician will dial in precise speed and depth settings for your goals. Thousands of these little pinpricks are made in the skin during a treatment. This stimulates the production of collagen and elastin as your skin repairs itself and resurfaces the blemishes, fine lines, or other skin imperfections.
What Can I Expect During My Treatment?
Before your procedure, make sure you do not use any retinol products 72 hours prior and make sure you inform your provider about any medications you may be taking (blood thinners, fish oil, Accutane, etc.).
When you come in for your treatment, our aesthetician will begin the procedure by applying a topical numbing cream that will make the treatment comfortable. After that sits on your skin for a few moments they will begin with a light cleanse and application of ZO Accelerator Serum that will be infused into your skin during the microneedling treatment. Platelet Rich Plasma can be used in place of the ZO Serum for added benefits for our patients.
During the treatment, the Rejuvapen device will glide easily over your skin. It is not particularly painful at all, there are some areas that can be more sensitive than others but overall patients report that the treatment is quite easy and tolerable.
What is the downtime of Microneedling?
Immediately after the treatment you will have a pink glow that resembles light sunburn. Your skin may feel a little tighter or warmer than usual. Expect slight redness over the next 24-48 hours as your skin begins to repair and renew. After 48 hours, there should be no lasting side effects and you can begin your normal skincare regimen. Don’t forget the sunscreen after any skin treatment!
How many treatments do I need? How long will my results last?
Oftentimes patients see positive results after one treatment but to get the full effect our aesthetician will likely recommend a series of 3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. This is because skin takes roughly 4 weeks to synthesize new collagen and fully resurface.
