Laser Hair Removal
Laser Hair Removal
Are you tired of shaving, waxing, or tweezing? Laser hair removal is a great option to permanently eliminate unwanted hair from any part of the body. This treatment is one of the most common cosmetic procedures in the United States and can reduce hair in many areas, including:
- Bikini line/Brazilian
- And more.
How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal works by using a laser (light) to target the pigment in the individual hairs. The light travels down the shaft of the hair and into the hair follicle. As a result, the heat of the laser destroys the hair follicle, and hair can no longer grow there. Hair follows a unique growth cycle that involves resting, shedding, and growing periods. In fact, Hair that is in a resting phase may not be visible to the laser. For this reason, laser hair removal involves several treatments to yield full coverage results.

How do I prepare for treatment?
Please shave your hair the night before your appointment. Avoid tanning or use of self-tanning products. Do not wax, tweeze, or have electrolysis two weeks before the procedure. Avoid products with Glycolic Acid or Retinol a few days before your procedure as they can irritate the skin.
What can I expect from a laser hair removal treatment?
First, a licensed technician will lightly cleanse the area and shave it if the hair is too long. Then they will begin the process of calibrating the laser to your hair color, coarseness, and skin color. They will place the handpiece against your skin and deliver pulses of light to destroy the follicles. The laser utilizes a patented cooling system that lowers the temperature of the skin near the follicles before, during, and after laser exposure. Generally speaking, this technique reduces any sort of pain you may feel.
After your treatment, our team will help you schedule your next treatment in 4-6 weeks. Over the next month, your treated hair will fall out. At Capizzi MD our laser hair removal packages allow for 5-6 treatment sessions in order to ensure that all of the hair is permanently removed.
Is there any downtime for laser hair removal?
Afterwards, you can resume life as usual immediately. There may be a little initial redness or discomfort at the laser site, that should subside within 24 hours. Be careful to avoid excessive sun exposure at least a few days after your treatment. Also, avoid any products with Glycolic Acid or Retinol for a few days as they can irritate the skin further.
