Kybella

What is Kybella and how does it work?

Kybella is one of the newest and most exciting FDA-approved injectables in the field of preventative aging. It was developed to strategically target and eliminate the infuriating submental fat responsible for “double chins.” A double chin can add years to one’s perceived age, and also make a person appear heavier, resulting in lowered self-esteem and feelings of frustration with one’s appearance.

Kythera Biopharmaceuticals developed Kybella as a safe, nonsurgical alternative to more invasive procedures such as liposuction or neck lifts. The upper neck area below the jaw can be especially resistant to dieting and exercise, yet this simple cosmetic procedure can reverse unsightly fat deposits within a matter of weeks. With Kybella, patients require no incisions or general anesthesia, and recovery is immediate. A client can come to the office at lunchtime, and return to work for the afternoon.

The science of Kybella:

The critical ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a fat-metabolizing agent that occurs naturally in the human body. When injected, the deoxycholic acid pierces the fat cell membrane, causing lysis (membrane death). Immediately, the fat molecules are released from the cell, metabolized, and eliminated as waste, creating a more slender, sculpted profile with greater definition. Kybella will continue to improve chin and neck contours for 3-6 months, however, stunning results are usually visible in around 10-14 days.

Before & After

Choosing the right doctor:

While administering an injection may seem simple compared to many other cosmetic procedures, it actually requires a high degree of precision, accuracy and experience to attain an outcome that appears natural and aesthetically balanced. Additionally, the neck is a vulnerable area of the body, with many critical nerves and arteries, and as a double board certified surgeon, Dr. Capizzi is expertly qualified to address such anatomical complexities. Dr. Capizzi, along with his accomplished team of injection specialists have a reputation as some of the best in the region, recognized by Allergan with the prestigious Platinum Plus Award for outstanding patient outcomes and overall client care.

Dr. Capizzi excels at facial and neck contouring and continuously studies the latest trends in anti-aging skin care so that he might present his clients with the newest, most effective techniques. During your initial consultation, the doctor will work with you to determine the best solution for your aesthetic goals and individual anatomy. He will review before and after photos, go over your medical history (including thyroid and lymph node irregularities), and respond to any questions or concerns. Your complete satisfaction with your results is his primary objective. In some cases where skin laxity is a problem, such as in individuals who have undergone extreme weight loss, the doctor may suggest an additional procedure such as a facelift or neck lift to address the sagging, excess folds.

The Kybella procedure:

Kybella works best when administered in a series of injections over the course of several months. The number of injections required to achieve ideal results will vary, of course, based on the amount of submental fat to be melted away, but with each subsequent treatment, you will see dramatic improvements in the chin and neck profile.

Typically, patients will undergo 2-6 injections, with each session lasting approximately 20 minutes. As long as the client maintains a healthy diet and exercise routine, the changes accomplished with Kybella are permanent. Dr. Capizzi will customize his approach to promote maximum efficiency. He neither over nor under injects the target sites, producing a flawless outcome that will delight and exceed expectations.
