You may have concluded that tired, droopy eyelids, puffy bags beneath the eye, crow’s feet and laugh lines are just the inevitable burdens of aging that must be tolerated, covered with makeup or hidden behind dark glasses. Loss of elasticity and weakened muscles around the eyes can make one appear exhausted or depressed, and can add as much as ten years to one’s perceived age. In extreme cases, sagging skin from the upper lids may actually cause ptosis, or the impairment of vision.
Yet with the latest revolutionary techniques in eyelid surgery (also known as blepharoplasty), vibrant, youthful eyes are finally within reach. During this rejuvenating 50-minute cosmetic procedure, Dr. Capizzi produces dramatic results by removing excess skin and fat around the eye area and tightening the tiny muscles we use every day to form thousands of facial expressions. This is one of the doctor’s most in-demand surgeries for both men and women, and is often recommended in conjunction with a facelift, a brow lift or a neck lift.
The Capizzi Approach:
Clients from all over NC regard Dr. Capizzi, a board-certified plastic surgeon trained at the elite Mayo Clinic, as one of the top providers of eyelid surgery available. In addition to standard operating techniques, Dr. Capizzi may use laser resurfacing, injectables such as BOTOX and Juvederm, as well as a variety of medical-grade skincare products to revitalize the entire eye area. During your private initial consultation, the doctor will explain your options in depth and answer any questions or concerns you may have about the procedure.

Options for anesthesia:
If a client is receiving more than one cosmetic facial operation, the best choice is usually general anesthesia. Because the eye area is so sensitive, most clients prefer at least some form of sedation, or twilight sedation with local anesthesia. Dr. Capizzi works with a team that provides among the best eyelid surgery, and his dedicated anesthesiologist will be on hand to discuss any concerns or questions you may have.
Details of the procedure:
During your blepharoplasty, Dr. Capizzi will make an incision below the eyelashes on the lower lid, or on the upper lid crease. It’s important to note that over-operating will foil the objective of eyelid surgery, and therefore a subtle touch is required to leave the proper amount of fat and tissue for a natural, brightened look that doesn’t appear “done”. Dr. Capizzi is highly qualified to provide such refined and organic outcomes and will customize his approach to your unique situation. Additionally, Dr. Capizzi may see fit to perform a brow lift in conjunction, as drooping or sagging brows may exasperate puffy, bulbous eyelids.
After eyelid surgery, patients can hope to experience a swift healing process with imperceptible scarring, thanks to Dr. Capizzi’s 20 years of experience and thousands of successful outcomes. Clients will be discharged with steri-strips at incision points, with sutures removed in approximately one week. Any swelling or bruising usually resolves itself within a matter of days and should not be a cause of alarm. As always, Dr. Capizzi and his kind, knowledgeable staff members are available 24/7 to assist you, should you need anything during your recovery process.
